I Wasn’t Looking
You left without a sound,
floating, snout down, in the pool.
You weren’t in your eyes anymore,
all I found in them was me.
Sliced my eyes with memories,
so I didn’t see you slip underneath,
alone,
looking for me.
I miss the excitement in your eyes,
whenever they found me.
They always did, for seventeen years,
until one quiet afternoon,
when mine didn’t find you.
